May 25th 2008 03:59
I love the Memorial Day holiday it is custom made for welcoming summer, drinking, catching a newly released movie, and eating barbeque. In service of everybody needing stuff to listen to while partying in yards and on rooftops these next three days here is a mix for your enjoyment:

Mystery Jets: Young Love

Liars: Houseclouds

Drive by Truckers: A Ghost to Most

Goldfrapp: Oh La La

Vampire Weekend: A Punk

Black Keys: Strange Times

Guillemots: Get Over It

Caribou: Yeti

Friends I came across this article regarding a high school student in trouble for spelling out a prom invitation on the asses of his Lacrosse team members Link]Really Long Link to article This got me to thinking about prom music...especially the tried and true prom gold noted below:

Journey-Faithfully
I am embarrassed to admit but I actually like this one (sigh). So sad to remember how hot my girlfriends thought Steve Perry was.

Boyz to Men-It's so Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday
Tearjerker alert. Wish I had a dollar for every tear this song scored.

Bryan Adams-Heaven
Oh I think this is probably one of the best karaoke songs ever.

U2-All I Want is You (and Bono's mullet)

Eric Clapton-Wonderful Tonight
Okay all you Clapton fans settle down. I know he is a Rock God but puhlease this song has been run into the ground...There I said it!

10,000 Maniacs-These are Days
I am guessing that Natalie Merchant wore all black to her prom...to match her heart...and because there is nothing darker.

New Kids on the Block-I'll Be Loving You Forever
How do you slow-dance to this song without laughing? By fantasizing about Marky Mark's six pack....that's how!

Sarah MacLachlan-I Will Remember You
No you won't especially if you attend a kick ass unofficial after prom party.

Lynryd Skynrd: Free Bird
This was one of the songs played at my prom. If I recall correctly everyone got all misty eyed and lit one up.

Bob Seger: We've Got Tonight
This was the last song played at my prom. This provided the "green light" for hopeful guys everywhere to follow Bob's lead and lay it out there. Hey gotta give a guy props for trying. I know there were girls at my prom who respected a more direct method. [wink]

This is my Vote For My Favorite Legitimate Sweet Prom Cover Song
(John Cusak be my prom date please..... bring your boom box and your trenchcoat)
In Your Eyes-Jeffrey Gaines (Peter Gabriel Cover)

Art of Sound

May 15th 2008 14:47
Inside the art of sound is not so much pure pleasure as an escape into an esential oneness within unspeakable meaning of the world. Music is the art that leaves as soon as it arrives. It always comes to us suddenly and it departs the same way. Music can't be reduced by explanation.
