Background Music
December 6th 2006 05:56
I have to say as there are some very odd places where you find background music. I can never quite get over it when you hear it in the toilet of a club, hotel or fancy shopping centre or even a not so fancy shopping centre. It is thoughtful, but strange.
There is of course the most notorious of all background music, the elevator. Whether you live in a block of swish apartments, just jumping the escalator hype in Myer or cruising the levels in a hotel you are bound to be faced with the inevitable background music.
At my place of employment, we (the staff) are all subjected to the sounds of Sky Channel. I do not mean to rubbish this source, but it is the same thing every night for us. I can feel a strike coming soon. After one guest commented on the lack of sounds, I did some investigating on the matter. To this result, I am now kicking myself, because it is Christmas Carols eat your heart out. The novelty of voice overing the festive tunes has DEFINITELY worn off.
So where else does one hear background music? Obviously in department stores, has anyone heard one in the dentist? As a youngin’ my orthodontist had Foxtel’s Channel V pumping out at full volume. We were all pretty happy.
My gym has its own network. Which, is audible in the whole place, so classifies as background music. I understand it is the same tunes for a whole month. I am glad not to be a trainer at that gym.
The best place was in a “Prestige Cab” I entered by accident, it was great. No small talk and there were plenty of sultry tunes, I almost fell asleep they were so relaxing!
What are the strangest or most random places you have heard background music? Don’t be shy.
