Choice Album - Snow Patrol
December 1st 2006 03:45
Fresh sounds from Ireland these days bring you bands like Snow Patrol. I admit I have been a bit slow on the uptake in buying their album, Eyes Open, but they definitely are now. After playing it all day, I have come to realise how many of their tracks I actually know, pretty much all of them. Good old commercial radio, you can hardly get away from the most popular stuff can you?
Their sound is quite magical, very good for those days you feel like unwinding. The leader singer, Gary Lightbody, has a very clear, soulful, dare I say pop voice which reminds much of something you would hear in a lullaby. Each song is different of course, but of course I do like their most popular track, You’re All I have. The grinding guitars and base, give that epic sound, something that you would hear from Coldplay. But more to the point these guys remind me a lot of the Mutton Birds and the Goo Goo Dolls, especially Gary’s vocals.
The title of the Album, is incorporated into its brother track, Hands Open, again with the driving force of the bass and guitars, you feel like running forever. Well if you are like me and exercise to music.
It is not all bass, Chasing Cars & You Could Be Happy are very mellowed and allow you to catch your breath. More acoustically oriented they are what unleashed my appreciation for this great alternative band, Snow Patrol.
The other important bonus, is that they do not sound Irish, so if you are not a fan of the choir like cooing of Sinead O'Connor, do not fear, you will be pleasantly surprised!

Fun Facts
As Nina says, I quite like the Chasing Cars one as well and I have been curious as to what the rest of the album sounds like.

I do not think there is a second chasing cars.. unless my ears are lying.
Although, alot of their tracks do sound very similar...

Looks like more misinformation - I'd heard there was the normal track and an acoustic version, or something like that. But then again, that's the people I know for you - I guess that's why I do Fun facts and they don't. ; )
